When do Dominicans wear the <i>cappa</i>? Is it seasonal? Penitential? Merely practical? <br /><br />Also: Through the years, what other customs, if any, have ruled the use of the <i>cappa</i>? If it's seasonal, how have the fixed dates beginning and ending the period of the <i>cappa</i> changed over the centuries? <br /><br />Perhaps more interesting questions: What's the significance, symbolic or otherwise, of the colors, a black <i>cappa</i> over a white habit? What's the relation, if any, of the Dominican habit with <i>cappa</i> to the habits of non-Dominican orders?
